The Power of Live Sports in Streaming Subscriptions
The addition of live sports to HBO Max aims to appeal to cord-cutters and provide a much-needed boost in revenue. Amid ongoing Hollywood strikes that have halted TV and movie production, the entertainment giant recently projected a potential loss of $300 million to $500 million this year.
To further enhance its streaming platform, HBO Max has also announced the upcoming inclusion of a streaming version of CNN, set to launch on September 27th.
Although shares of HBO Max's parent company, WBD, have experienced a 23% year-to-date increase, they have slipped by 7% in the past month. In comparison, the S&P 500 has achieved a 16% gain for the year and a 1% gain over the same one-month period.
