The U.K. stock market saw mixed results on Monday, with the FTSE 100 Index UKX falling by 0.76% to close at 7,652.94.
Top Decreases
Several FTSE 100 constituents experienced significant declines in their stock prices. Residential building construction company Persimmon PLC (PSN) recorded the largest decrease, shedding 4.59% of its shares.
Diversified reits firm British Land Co. PLC (BLND) and wholesalers company RS Group PLC (RS1) also saw substantial drops of 4.58% and 4.33% respectively.
Investment advisors company abrdn PLC (ABDN) and gambling industries business Entain PLC (ENT) rounded out the top five largest decreases, with their stocks falling by 3.82% and 3.38% respectively.
Top Increases
On the positive side, Mondi PLC (MNDI), a leading paper and pulp company, experienced the biggest increase among FTSE 100 constituents. Its shares rose by 3.25% on Monday.
Shares of food retail firm Ocado Group PLC (OCDO) and air freight company International Distribution Services PLC (IDS) also saw notable gains, with increases of 3.06% and 1.94% respectively.
Pharmaceuticals company Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (HIK) and nondurable household products company Reckitt Benckiser Group PLC (RKT) rounded out the top five largest increases, as their stocks climbed by 1.79% and 1.18% respectively.
Currency and Commodity Performance
The pound displayed slight strength against the dollar, with a 0.16% increase, trading at $1.2403. However, it weakened by 0.17% against the euro, at €1.1596.
Meanwhile, Brent crude oil increased by 0.9% to $94.77. The yield on the 10-year gilt also experienced a slight increase, rising by 2.980 basis points to 4.391%.
