A.P. Moeller-Maersk has decided to divert its ships from the Red Sea to avoid potential risks following recent attacks on vessels in the region. The company announced on Tuesday that it will be re-routing ships through the Cape of Good Hope in Africa until further notice.
As of Monday, approximately 20 ships had been temporarily paused, with half of them waiting east of the Gulf of Aden and the rest positioned south of Suez in the Red Sea or north of Suez in the Mediterranean Sea. However, Maersk assured that these ships will proceed with their voyages as soon as it is operationally feasible to do so.
In response to the situation, Maersk expressed its commitment to collaborating closely with industry partners and international entities in order to find a resolution. The company is determined to do everything possible to restore the flow of goods and minimize disruption to global supply chains.
Ship operators have been faced with increased risks when transporting cargo through the region due to recent attacks by Yemen's Houthi forces.
