Deutsche Lufthansa has announced plans to increase its presence in the military sector through its Technik division, which offers a wide range of aircraft maintenance, repair, overhaul, and modification services. The German airline company aims to further strengthen its position in this market segment, according to Chief Executive Carsten Spohr speaking at an event recently.
Lufthansa Technik and Rheinmetall Consortium for F-35 Maintenance
During the event, Mr. Spohr confirmed the establishment of a partnership between Lufthansa Technik and German automotive-and-arms manufacturer Rheinmetall for the maintenance of the F-35 fighter jet. This collaboration represents a significant step forward for Lufthansa's military operations. The consortium is set to finalize the agreement on September 19. Notably, Germany intends to purchase 35 F-35 aircraft from the United States.
Expansion into Helicopter Maintenance
Lufthansa also seeks to expand its maintenance services to include helicopters. The company has expressed interest in participating in a major contract negotiation with U.S. plane manufacturer Boeing, which the German armed forces are currently undertaking.
