China's Baidu, a leader in AI development, has introduced a powerful generative artificial intelligence model that it claims is on par with OpenAI's renowned ChatGPT. The updated version of Baidu's model, named Ernie 4.0, showcases significant advancements in understanding, generation, logic, and memory.
During an event, Baidu's Chief Executive Robin Li highlighted that Ernie 4.0's capabilities are comparable to OpenAI's latest AI-powered language model, GPT-4. This development positions Baidu at the forefront of AI innovation in the world's second-largest economy.
The integration of Baidu's new AI model will enhance the company's search engine, map, and other applications. Notably, the search engine will now have the ability to generate comprehensive responses using text, images, and charts. Additionally, Baidu's AI model can precisely pinpoint specific moments within videos or provide concise summaries of hour-long videos within seconds.
Baidu first entered the generative AI space earlier this year when it introduced an earlier version of Ernie in March. With this latest advancement, Baidu solidifies its position as a leading innovator in the field.
