Monday, Dec. 18 - The Asia-Pacific stock markets exhibited a mixed performance today, with some key indices recording declines while others managed to rise.
Hong Kong
In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng Index (HSI) experienced a decline of 1.0%, closing at 16,629.23. Xinyi Solar Holdings (968), a renewable energy equipment company, faced the largest drop of 5.9% in Hong Kong.
Among other notable changes in Hong Kong, shares of Orient Overseas Intl (316), a marine transport company, saw the largest increase of 4.2%.
Japan
The Nikkei 225 Index (NIK) in Japan slipped by 0.6%, settling at 32,758.98. Sharp Corp. (6753), a personal electronics company, suffered the largest decrease of 4.3%.
On the positive side, marine freight company Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (9107) recorded the highest increase of 6.7% in Japan.
Other Markets
In China, the Shanghai Composite Index (SHCOMP) dropped by 0.4% to 2,930.80.
Singapore's FTSE Straits Times Index (STI) remained steady, closing flat at 3,115.07.
South Korea's KOSPI Composite Index (180721) witnessed a slight rise of 0.1% to 2,566.86.
Australia's S&P/ASX 200 Benchmark Index (XJO) experienced a decrease of 0.2%, reaching 7,426.40.
